3D Dense Breast Screening Ultrasound for Enhanced Accuracy

A Screening Breast ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test which utilizes sound waves to create detailed images of the breast and no x-ray. It is often used as a supplemental screening tool for women with dense breast tissue, those at high risk of breast cancer, or for further evaluation when a mammogram detects an unclear or suspicious area. It can help identify cysts or solid masses and provide valuable information for diagnosis of breast condition.

It is important to note that breast ultrasound is typically used in conjunction with mammography and clinical breast exams to achieve a comprehensive breast screening approach.

Why do I need a Screening Breast Ultrasound?

A Screening Breast Ultrasound is used as a supplemental screening tool for women with dense breast tissue or high risk of breast cancer.

Is a Screening Breast ultrasound painful?
No, a Screening Breast ultrasound is typically not painful. It is a non-invasive procedure that most most women experience minimal discomfort, if any.
Is a Screening Breast ultrasound better than a screening mammogram?
Ultrasound is not a substitute for an annual screening mammogram because it cannot detect the calcifications like your annual mammogram can. Cancer can also present as salt crystals which are not detected by ultrasound and only by mammography. Ultrasound is used as a supplemental examination in women with dense breast or to evaluate an abnormal finding on a mammogram. Screening mammography is the gold standard and is proven to increase survival rates through early detection.
How long does the procedure take?
Screening Breast ultrasound takes about 15 minutes to complete. In most cases the ultrasound is a relatively quick and efficient procedure.
When will hear back about my results?
At Eve’s Breast Center our onsite breast specialist physician will perform the entire Screening Breast ultrasound examination and deliver the results during the exam and go over your images including a discussion on follow-up if needed.
What happens if the Screening Breast ultrasound detects an abnormality?
If ultrasound detects a breast abnormality, further evaluation and follow-up may be required depending on the nature of the abnormality. We may recommend additional testing such as a follow-up diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy or an MRI.
